VIP Movement on Delhi Road

Click taken during VIP movement on busy Delhi Road. Traffic stalled for over 10 minutes and I decided to capture this moment. See, they blocked both sides of the road. No one was allowed to walk over towards that direction, not even pedestrians because of security reasons.

Will the newly elected government in Delhi put an end to VIP culture as they advertise (and at what level it is required)? Question to answer. We will wait and watch.

  1. I know that wait can be torturous.

  2. Well captured! Having been a Delhiite practically all my life, I know this situation only too well. :-/ Vaise, this seems like some super big shot (not your regular big-shot like MPs) was going to pass by. Incidentally, I was in New York for a while the past summer and this one time I was walking towards the Museum of Modern Art when suddenly there was a flurry and uniformed men ran in front of us, behind us & everywhere around and within one minute, set up a barricade all over. We, the pedestrians, were blocked on our stretch of the pavement, and everyone else was stalled similarly. We asked around and got to know that the President Obama was going to pass by shortly! Within three minutes tops, there was a loooong cavalcade of cars and military-style trucks whizzing past us, while some people all around cheered or waved to him. They moved so fast I got such blurry pics of the entire movement! Mr. President and his cavalcade were gone in less than a minute, and we were all free to go, too. All this took about 5-6 minutes in all. I suppose it happens for the topmost officials in all countries, but - a) the beneficiaries of such lavish attention are limited in number there, b) they're much quicker about the process, sparing bystanders the agony of waiting for (what feels like) ages!

    1. You are right Ami.
I can also recollect another instance of same kind of VIP movement while I was on the way to my office. Unfortunately they got it delayed that time, entire road was barricaded (again from both ends :) Since it was getting late & traffic started building up, we took U-turn without having any idea of chaos waiting for us on other roads. We picked one road to another without any luck. The entire region was chocked as they closed all nearby roads. Finally we decided to wait. Another 20 minutes passed and we finally get relieved.

  3. The VIP bandh can be so irritating at times that, in its wake, how the new government will be answering your questions is going to be very interesting indeed!

    1. Yes. The Bandh are the ones create most problem. They are mostly being motivated by political reasons rather than main issue itself. Forcibly Blocking roads, forcibly shutting down shops won'd do good as the common man suffers more due to this.

    1. Sadly Yes. But from last 4 weeks, there has been lot of talk about VIP culture in India. Let's see, which areas officials will work on to control VIP culture. NDTV & TimesNow have also started some media programs on the this theme. Check that out on YouTube.
